I just use any sorta scanner but not old ones.. After I scan It i always desaturate it in photoshop and change the contrast to get it looking the same way it does in real life. not too much or you loose your lighter tone but just enough to make it look the same sort of realistic. lately I have actually been taking photos of it because the cameras dont pick up the yucky grainy textures and thing like a scanner does so if you can get your hands on a good high mega pixel camera with a good macro setting its WAY better than a scanner. Take the picture into good sunlight (try not to use a flash) and if the sunlight is too strong and washed out take it in nice shade.
hope that helps you!
